Known as the UK’s leading festival for new and independent music, SOUND CITY will take over the Mersey streets from the 1st to the 3rd October. The celebrated event has taken place annually in Liverpool for the last 14 years and is renowned for seeing global stars play alongside the best emerging talent from both the local and national music scene.
The headliners are some of the most eminent stars within UK music. London’s newest it-girl BEABADOOBEE will kick off the festivities on Friday. Special guest JAMIE WEBSTER will join alternative outfit RED RUM CLUB as they return to Liverpool on Saturday to play an all-out hometown party, and REJJIE SNOW will round off the festivities on the Sunday.
They will be joined by some of the best local rising talent, including local alt rockers THE MYSTERINES, technicolour indie artist PIXEY and psych jazz outfit MONKS.
However, the events don’t stop at live music, and instead take a wider look at the music industry. The annual Sound City conference, the biggest business event for independent music in the UK, will take place alongside the festival’s live events. It will feature a series of panels, workshops and InConversations from a wide range of industry professionals. Previous years have seen names such as John Cale, Seye Adelekan and Ayishat Akanbi take to the conference room, to provide insight and knowledge on various topics and issues across the UK music scene.
The festival will take place across a series of venues in Liverpool’s city centre, with Grand Central Hall announced as the main stage area. The festivities are set to celebrate the vibrancy of Liverpool and shine a light on the importance of independent music as the live scene makes its grand return.
