Up Above The City, Down Beneath The Stars
07/12 – Leaf On Bold Street
Founder member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as well as Manchester post punk legends Magazine, Barry Adamson visits Liverpool in support of his new literary release.
Adamson’s memoir Up Above The City, Down Beneath The Stars – Magazine, The Bad Seeds, Into The Underworld & Beyond is out now on Omnibus Press and charts the former bass player’s journey out of the bleakness of post-industrial Manchester via pop music.
The author comes to Leaf on Bold Street to discuss the book with Liverpudlian knowledge fountain Roger Hill before opening up to questions from the audience.
Up Above The City, Down Beneath The Stars is the story of a life in music which began in a fertile north west scene alongside the likes of Joy Division, Durutti Column and Buzzcocks. Adamson’s path took him to Nick Cave‘s post-Birthday Party project at a time when addiction was tearing it apart before embarking on a solo career fuelled by the bassist’s love of complex cinematic arrangements.
The book takes it’s cue from this love of cinema with a film noir style narration and a heady mix of of harrowing, tragic, funny and often life-affirming tales.
