Liverpool’s links with Ireland are multifarious and deep rooted. Merseyside’s Celtic character extends to all areas of culture and music is amongst the most obvious examples of this exchange.
Each year Bido Lito! encounters many artists who enjoy strong links to Ireland and every year Liverpool Irish Festival produces a programme of music and arts which celebrate the relationship between our city and the Emerald Isle. This year also sees Liverpool holding the Feis – an event celebrating the best of Irish culture which sees the legendary Van Morrison topping the bill.
With St Patrick’s Day fast approaching, we’ve put together a playlist of artists we’ve come across who bridge the Irish Sea in various ways.
Cork-based Wirralite Laurie Shaw graced the cover of Bido Lito! back in 2016 and recently released the wonderful Weird Weekends album, while Irish-Swedish-Brazilian triumvirate All We Are have established themselves on the Merseyside music scene. We’ve included a couple of their tunes on our Paddy’s Day mix including the fantastic Human, taken from last years Sunny Hills album. There’s also tracks from erstwhile Liverpool folksters The Lost Brothers, the awesome Seafoam Green and much, much more to explore. Have a listen to the playlist here:
Liverpool Irish Festival will be popping up at the Three Festivals Tall Ship Regatta on 25-28 May weekend. Visit liverpoolrishfestival.com for more info.
