The writer Maya Angelou said “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” That feeling of flow when we feel we are producing our best work, we can’t wait to get in the studio to carry on a project and one idea begets another is truly special. However, the antithesis of Angelou’s thesis is the dreaded creative block. And we’ve all been there.
Creative block causes us to project nothing but fear onto the blank page. A session in the studio is an expensive drain on our energy and time. It’s like insomnia for ideas, the harder you try, the more your muse eludes you.
With the constant distraction of terrible news, pressures on all areas of our lives and lockdown’s robbing us of the usual stimuli, 2020 has cause creative blockages in many. Those normally bubbling with ideas and buzzing with productivity have found it difficult to but pen to paper, hand to plectrum or open up a new Logic Pro Project.
For the next few weeks SAE Institute, in collaboration with Bido Lito!, is going to be asking creatives what they do when such barriers present themselves. We’ll be sharing top tips across our social media channels which will hopefully help you beat the beast of creative block. If you have your own tips please drop us a line and add to the conversation. Let’s help Liverpool #StayCreative.
