In this new regular feature we ask our knowledgeable Community Members to compile a selection of music from their recent listening playlists to be featured in Bido Lito! In this month’s issue we have a selection of tunes hand-picked from Community Member Anda Phillips. Wanna see what she’s been clamouring for? Have a read below…
Czarface + Ghostface Killah
From the album Czarface Meets Ghostface. I’m gluten free (all hail the Merseyside Gluten Free Pie Company) and there’s a line about gluten which makes me giggle every time I listen. Old-skool hip hop with new-skool cultural references.
The Leaf Label
One for dancing and checking your pulse. Not so sure about the album, Stunning Luxury, though. Every attempt at seeing them live has been thwarted and from what I read that’s where they’re at.
This track will make you stop and take a deep breath. Saw him and his band at the Hare and Hounds in Birmingham. The performance was understated, his dreamy live vocals, even though sparse, were transfixing and the sub bass just made you smile. It’s that need to smile again. One of those gigs that needed seats and where the ages went from 17 to 70.
None of you need to know how good these lot are ’cos you already know, but this track was a soundtrack to an awful time when my mum was in Broadgreen Hospital and I used to sing this bloody loud driving through the tunnel. Apologies to all who may have heard me, but it sure did help.
I’m always attracted to bands that have two drummers, and this melancholic, laid-back track always makes me smile. I have a love for brass too, so can’t wait for the full album.
