In this month’s issue, we introduce a brand new feature called Members’ Mixtape. Each month, we’ll be asking our knowledgeable Bido Lito! Community Members to compile a selection of music from their recent listening playlists to be featured in Bido Lito! Exciting isn’t it?  Presenting us with the first mixtape is Community Member Suzi Gage, who tells us what tunes she’d like to shout about this month.

Art Brut
Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!
Alcopop!

Art Brut are back, hooray! They’re playing Phase One in Feb and I for one can’t wait. This new record is kind of a concept album about Eddie Argos’s life since the last AB record, including a near death experience and finding new love in Berlin. Aww. Oh, and it’s a total banger.

The Big Moon
Happy New Year
Fiction

I first came across The Big Moon because they were Marika Hackman’s backing band. I love this tune (and the whole album) as it has more than a little nod to the finest era of music – I’m talking, of course, about Britpop. The chorus backing vocals have some kind of power over me, I HAVE to sing along.

Jemma Freeman And The Cosmic Something
Heaven On A Plate
Friction Shifter

Jemma and I were in a band together when we were at school – heavily influenced by Mansun, we had songs about vicars and alcopops. But Jemma has been in some fantastic bands since then, including Landshapes, and I think this solo work is the best thing she’s done. The new album isn’t far away I believe – one to watch out for.

Simon & Garfunkel
America
CBS

My sister got me tickets to see the Simon & Garfunkel Story at the Empire for Christmas and ever since I’ve had S&G songs stuck in my head, particularly this one. You can’t beat those harmonies. And lyrics that occasionally punch you in the stomach.

Stephen Kerrison
New demos

Stephen is a friend of mine, and former member of bands such as Safetyword and Zun Zun Egui. These demos are a little bit of a departure from those bands though – delicate guitars over atmospheric soundscapes, with sweet harmonies disguising biting lyrics. Currently on heavy rotation in my headphones.
