The sun-dappled light shines through the trees on to the face of MARVIN POWELL, in the sepia-tinged video for the title track from his forthcoming EP. Wind Before The Train is a winsome, psych-folk tale that floats on Powell’s delicate guitar work, reminiscent of his trademark Drakeian touchstones. It’s a track that’s destined to be one of Powell’s signature tunes, setting the tone for his sublime new EP which is due for release on Skeleton Key Records on 22nd August.
Produced by James Skelly and Rich Turvey (She Drew The Gun, Blossoms), Wind Before The Train is the follow up to Powell’s critically acclaimed debut EP Salt. Opening with Wind Before The Train as the title track, the next three songs feature just Powell and his acoustic guitar: Travelling On is emotionally nuanced, honest and intimate; Thicker Skin and For You are tender, heartfelt hymnals which find Powell seeking (and finding) a deep connection to the music and the feeling that emanates.
Since recording the EP, Powell has appeared in front of thousands of fans while supporting John Cale’s Velvet Underground during 2017’s Liverpool Sound City, and more recently appeared at Liverpool International Music Festival in Sefton Park. His next live gig will be at Skeleton Coast Festival on 5th August, followed by a headline show at Buyers Club on 8th September (tickets available here).
