ADD TO PLAYLIST is the new monthly column brought to you by MELODIC DISTRACTION RADIO, delving into the fold of the newest releases on the dance music spectrum. If you’re into 808s, sample pads, DJ tools and everything in between, then you’re in good company.
Serious feels inbound as Liverpool’s synth pop kween launches her debut EP. With an illustrious gigging history including LIMF’s main stage, Liverpool Pride and supporting Submotion Orchestra, the rising vocalist has honed a keen ear and crisp technique over the last few years. On Night Drive, punchy, 80s-tipped production and soaring vocals mingle over ambien(t)-electro soundscaping. Hypnotic, somnambulant and beautifully wrenching. It’s a track for lonely, wistful midnight cigarettes. LUNA’s EP lands later in October.
MOONBOW is one ninth of the womxn-led SIREN DJ collective. Moonbow enters the musical fray with this debut physical release, landing on the West Friends label, with prog-house darling Ciel featuring on the flip. The production fizzes with glitchy, Holly Herndon-esque vocals, psychedelic melodies and a smart blend of twinkling rave energy. A little bit of spice, but everything nice. SIREN collective play for ATHE at the Kazimier Stockroom on 14th September.
Make The Call
She might be from the neighbouring side of the M62, but Henrietta Smith-Rolla has been making serious moves. Rising up through the ranks of the Manchester circuit, AFRODEUTSCHE has dipped her toes into the Liverpool scene a tad (thanks Cartier 4 Everyone) but is now well and truly a global rising star. Make The Call steps away from her trademark harsh DJing sound and instead brings groovy hardware jams and breezy keys into play. Summertime picnic music drenched in North West power!
Melodic Distraction Radio is an independent internet radio station based in the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool, platforming artists, DJs and producers from across the North West. Head to melodicdistraction.com to listen in.
