SAVAGES
All-girl post-punk quartet Savages have amassed a huge buzz around them in the six short months since they played their debut gig supporting British Sea Power.
Honing in on a wealth of jagged riffs a la Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Echo & the Bunnymen, tempered with New York No Wave guitar textures, the four piece were hailed by Stool Pigeon as ‘arriving at a time when sex and danger’s stock in British music had fallen to unprecedented lows.’
Currently supporting The Vaccines on tour in addition to their own live dates, Savages were recently declared ‘the best new band in Britain’ by music writer John Robb.
The band have been winning heavy praise from NME and The Guardian who stated ‘Savages are the first vocals/guitar/bass/drums band worth caring about for eons’.

PALMA VIOLETS
Despite the deliberate lack of information about them, Palma Violets are the most talked group in the capital, winning high praise from those who have seen them live in the NME and dozens of blogs.
Fitting into the lineage of dark rock bands such as The Doors and The Velvet Underground and more recently Spiritualized, the band are rumoured to have signed to legendary indie label Rough Trade by label boss Geoff Travis on the strength of just one song. NME wrote of the group, ‘Listen, we’ve kept our mouths shut for a couple of months. We wanted to make double sure that Palma Violets are all we thought they were. They are. And it’s time to get very excited.’
Generating a huge amount of mystique the quartet have studiously avoided uploading any of their tracks into cyberspace, with only mobile-phone footage of their gigs available so far.
The only full Palma Violets song on the net presently Happy Endings, live at Manchester Deaf Institute in April here

DEATH AT SEA
Creating their own take on classic US college rock/indie to make into something entirely their own Death At Sea are the most talked about new band in Liverpool, an impressive feat in a city full of them.
Influenced by the power and melodicism of Husker Du and Nirvana with a hint of Pavement’s ragged glory the group landed on the cover of the city’s music magazine Bido Lito! before they had even played a gig.
The quintet’s made their riotous live debut in front of a crowd who already knew the words to their songs and went on to make waves with an acclaimed set at Liverpool Sound City in May. The group recently journeyed down to The Smoke to play at the ultra-hip Old Blue Last Bar owned by Vice magazine.
Despite having only a dozen gigs under their belts the band have attracted interest from record companies and the press alike and scored plays on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio One show.
Check out the fantastic Drag, which is soon to be the band’s first single on ltd. edition 7” vinyl here
