The bamboo flute, or bansuri as it is known in India, creates a most beautiful and delicately haunting sound. Here, two of the leading bansuri players of the Hindustani and Carnatic styles, reflect each other to present a rare jugalbandi performance exploring and highlighting the differences between the Northern and Southern styles of playing.
Shashank Subramaniam, hailed as a musical genius since his childhood, has blazed a trail with his unique style of Carnatic flute. Known globally for his intricate rhythmic patterns, and melodic virtuosity, he is an innovator and masterful musician. He will be joined by master percussionist, Patri Satish Kumar on the mridangam.
Following, and later joining Shashank will be Rakesh Chaurasia. Also a child prodigy in his youth, Rakesh is the nephew and student of legendary musician Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. His incredible talent in the Hindustani style communicates immense emotion and feeling, and coupled with his great technical ability, makes him an exceptional flautist. Rakesh will be accompanied by tabla maestro, Kousic Sen.
