NZCA/Lines … JONQUIL … Fonetiks

Live at [STUDIO 2] Parr st. Friday 5th October.

NZCA/Lines
The supremely talented Michael Lovett produced one of the best albums of this year in their eponymous effort currently streaming here: http://nzca-lines.com
Delicious electro-pop rhythms fuse with shimmering, layered harmonies and sultry, hushed R&B vocals to produce tracks that draw the listener into a shimmering, intoxicating bliss.
Live this experience is made even deeper with the addition of live drums and bass.

“a pretty much perfect (analogue) synth-pop record” The FADER

“this is an utterly bewitching collusion of cocooning falsetto harmonies, jutting sighs and expansive synth swells” - Time Out London

“a debut so exquisitely tooled I cannot find a thing wrong with it. If the word weren't so open to misinterpretation, I'd call it perfect.” The QUIETUS

JONQUIL.

Jonquil are Hugo Manuel, Sam Hudson Scott, Robin McDiarmid and Dominic Hand, four men in their early twenties. From the Oxford scene that begat Foals, Jonquil were, until last year, a shoegazing sextet with two albums to their credit.

Now a fourpiece, they've condensed a range of textures – jerky guitars, hazy harmonies, skittish electronic beats – into something alt-poppier than previously. After this years barn-storming set at Soundcity, we just had to get them over again.
Part of Oxford’s Blessing Force collective, Jonquil, alongside Pet Moon, Trophy Wife, Fixers, Rhosyn, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Chad Valley, together represent a groundswell of new creative output from the city that promises much. Were over the moon to get them to the city, this set is not for the missing!
