Daniel Martin-McCormick aka ITAL has been integral to the punk and noise scene for the past decade, starting off as guitarist and singer for DC post-hardcore collective Black Eyes then moving to San Francisco to start no-wavers Mi Ami, whilst at the same time he launched Sex Worker as a solo project. Concurrent to his bands Martin-McCormick had also spent years dipping in and out of dance music and attempting to make his own productions through rudimentary music software. His first release ‘Ital’s Theme’ was released last year on 100 Silk, an offshoot of renowned lo-fi label Not Not Fun, and he has since added 3 more 12 inches, including a collaboration with LA Vampires. However this year Ital made the leap from lo-fi aesthetics to line up alongside dance and electronica’s biggest acts, as he released Hive Mind on Planet Mu, home of electronic heavyweights Kuedo, Machinedrum and Venetian Snares. Hive Mind has received universal acclaim, notably from Pitchfork, Resident Advisor and Drowned in Sound among others.
Ital’s music stands at the forefront of a number of outsider musicians breathing new life into the dance scene, by creating harsh, deconstructed textures along with melodies heavily indebted to classic and deep house, creating an atmosphere both unsettling and undeniably danceable. Ital also bucks the trend of dance producers live, as opposing to hiding behind a laptop Martin-McCormick’s performance includes live analogue mixing, throwing in keyboard riffs and lots of dancing. Although Daniel Martin-McCormick has come to Liverpool with Mi Ami, this will be his first show as Ital in Liverpool and his only tour date in the Northwest.
Along with Ital Deep Hedonia and HIVE are proud to announce that FOREST SWORDS will be DJing through the night. Matthew Barnes has garnered an immense amount of support from the Liverpool scene, with his brand of downcast, evocative hypnagogia. By the end of June Forest Swords will have returned from his first tour and will be readying his new record following Fjree Feather and Dagger Paths.
We will be also presenting local acid house hero ISOCORE performing a rare live set using real instruments, on the spot turns and a whole host of unpredictable beats. As part of the Upitup records scene, Isocore has helped shape the underground dance scene in Liverpool, playing alongside some of the worlds best kept secrets in house and techno, as well as cultivating a huge following around the city.
Co-promoters HIVE will also be sharing the decks with Forest Swords
