THE DESTROYERS

The anarchic 15 headed beast of blazing passion and energy that is The Destroyers will unleash a carnival of sound with their second album ‘Hole In The Universe’ on 2nd April 2012. A collection of rogues and misfits from the Birmingham Conservatoire, The Destroyers was conceived in 2006 at the legendary Balkan Basement jam sessions in Moseley. They quickly burst free from the confines of the 'Balkan Brass' genre and emerged as an orchestra of preposterous rambunctiousness and breathtaking originality.

The Destroyers’ debut album ‘Out Of Babel’ (Sept 2009) was critically praised for its diverse palette, innovatively accessible, whilst still holding gypsy, folk and klezmer at its centre.  Most importantly ‘Out of Babel’ made people smile and The Destroyers have consistently captivated audiences at festivals and venues around the country, sweeping them into a frenzy of uninhibited dancing and bonhomie. Taking a no-holds-barred approach to writing their second album, all fifteen members of the band were creatively involved in making ‘Hole in the Universe’.  Fronted by songwriter/beat-poet Paul Murphy, The Destroyers tell modern tales of acute relevance - stories of love, death, humour,

chaos and catastrophe.  Songs ranging from the most sinister and intimate to the most joyous and universal are given intricate, complex accompaniments from this highly versatile collective equally at home as a folk group, rock band or orchestra.

So enter the Big Top and be immersed in the winding world of the hurdy-gurdy, the sonorous land of the tuba and the exotic realm of the duduk. Here you’ll find the ravages of war, the tyranny of endless work, the politics of red tape and the wonders of the universe!
