The official line...
Sometimes a trip to Italy and miles spent travelling abroad coupled with the power of American old time and bluegrass music will unsuspectingly forge an idea. Adventurous American musicians Thomas Bailey and Aaron Jonah Lewis converged without rehearsal for a last-minute gig at the Rootsway Festival in Parma, Italy, in June of 2011. Both musicians respectively living in New York, and Berlin, has a passion for playing Southern stringband music in front of international audiences. The beautiful and rustic Parma countryside and the festival goers’ rapturous reception instilled the two with a desire that will be fulfilled by a summer tour across the UK and the US in 2012. Guitarist Bailey and fiddler Lewis go back a long way as musicians. They've been sidemen to each other’s solo acts, and have crossed paths and competed against one another in friendly competitions at fiddlers conventions through the years. With a shared musical lineage, they have each spent years honing their repertory and cutting their multi-instrumental teeth on the music festival, jam session, and square dance circuits, playing in various well known bands. (Tom: The Grascals, the Foghorn Stringband, Tim O’Brien, Rhonda Vincent, Bill Evans and Megan Lynch, Gwar, The Freight Hoppers Aaron: Froggy Mountain Boys, Latcho Nash, Laura Bean, Old Fish Jazz Band, Django Lassi, Dixie Wankers, and Thomas Dolby, Special Ed and the Short Bus, The Hotseats)
Each has maintained a deep respect for the traditions of their discipline, while developing their own irresistable and powerful creativity. This summer Tom and Aaron set out to pay homage to their musical heroes like Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Art Stamper and the Carter Family, yet with a unique touch unravelling layers of roots, blues, folk, popular song and world music. These friends with a shared love for string instruments are out to have a good time, and they’re sure to give audiences a memorable experience along the way.
