FEATURE INTERVIEW

Bastille
Bastille live at The Stanley Theatre Liverpool

THE APPROACH OF BASTILLE DAY

Waxing lyrical is simultaneously as easy to do as it is dangerous but there are occasional times that come along when it's perfectly reasonable to blow smoke out a band's arse. And with that lingua franca ringing the air may we begin to talk about the amazing BASTILLE, the London-based four-piece fronted by Dan "hook writing genius" Smith.

Bastille live

They were one of the last few bands to play against the Elvis backdrop of MOJO last year, to a crowd of tens, where only creepy fan girls (right here) were singing along to their tunes word perfect. Fast forward to this year and it's a completely different story: they're now playing sell-out shows to thousands having played just about every festival the summer had to offer, and they’ve just recorded an exclusive live session on 6Music.

Bido Lito!’s Naters Philip caught up with the Bastille boys backstage at Leeds Festival to talk to them about their latest release Bad Blood and the re-release of the annoyingly catchy Flaws.

We considered ourselves very lucky to grab some time with them as they've been working tirelessly for the past year and it's definitely paying off. When they're not releasing their new material they're showing off their remixing skills at otherpeoplesheartache.com, a free download mix-tape which includes a collaboration with hot off the press band To Kill A King, who played in The Shipping Forecast last year.

But, what of current work?  Well, they're clogging up the airwaves on Radio1 seamlessly and Fearne Cotton can't seem to get enough of them (not that her opinion matters) as they had recorded a live interview/set with her on BBC3 before pegging it to Leeds festival. The lateral transition to 6Music was also a natural one, and seems fitting for a band on the rise.

This Friday, 12th October, sees them arriving at The Stanley Theatre for the next leg of their Triangle Tour supported by the Mancunian hip-shakers SWISS LIPS, a date which was added at their own personal request (listen around 9 minutes in the interview). The uptake for this show has been staggering, and the initial allocation of tickets sold out pretty quickly. An extra allocation of 30 tickets was made available to fans at the beginning of the week because of the huge demand, will you be one of the lucky ones...?

Bastille play The Stanley Theatre on Friday 12th October, supported by Swiss Lips. The band’s new single Flaws is released on 21st October.
